St. Francis offers a special service for parents of newborns in the Neonatal Care Unit, allowing them to keep an eye on their pride and joy, even when they are away from the hospital. The Baby Cam is a small video camera that is safely mounted to baby’s bassinet. It transmits live streaming video to a website, where parents can view the video from any internet connection after logging in with a secure User ID and password. It’s that easy –  simply log in to the website and watch away. The ID and password combination ensure that you’ve got your eyes on the right baby. Video streams 24/7* so you can always check in on your little one. It’s just another touch that makes St. Francis the first choice for moms in the Upstate.

*If you check in during feedings, diaper changes or medical treatments you'll see an away message. Check back in a few minutes and your baby will be back in view.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I share my User ID and password?
Once you have User ID and password information, what you do with it is up to you. If you’d like to share it with family and friends you may do so. Keep in mind, though, that only one person can be logged in at a time to see the baby, and preference is given to new logins. That means, if you are watching your baby and a family member logs while you're still watching, your family member will see the live stream and you will not.

I logged in and don’t see anything. What’s wrong?

Keep in mind that only one person can be logged on at a time to watch baby. This can cause you not to be able to use the service. If you can see that the video is working but the angle is such that you can’t see your baby, call the NCU nurses and ask them to adjust the camera. In addition, PC users need to have Java enabled to stream the video.

How secure is this service?

The security of our babies is our number one priority and we ensure their safety in multiple ways. In regard to the Baby Cam service, the streaming video is protected by a unique User ID and password that is generated for each new baby. In addition, parents opt in to the service. We do not stream video on babies whose parents have not specifically requested the service. When babies are discharged from the NCU, the cameras are turned off and the User ID and password are immediately disabled.

Can I use the Baby Cam service on my smartphone?

If your smartphone is enabled to view streaming video (such as YouTube) you should be able to see your baby’s video on your phone. Keep in mind that only one person can be logged in at a time.
